griffonsystems 0 Posted August 30, 2010 Any advice on the following application: 5 light poles with power will have 5 megapixel ip cameras(mobotix m12s) mounted on them with a box that contains a wireless ap so that the client can drive their car to any of the poles and download any of the video onto their laptops by accessing the wireless network -- poles are all in one line about 100-200ft apart all with los
thewireguys 3 Posted August 30, 2010 So are they gonna have to drive to each camera and download the video individually or they will be able to access all cameras from any of the access points? How are you powering the cameras and access points? POE or 12volts?
hardwired 0 Posted August 31, 2010 Unless you need to have more than one person at a time accessing the cameras, you will probably want to have a wireless unit for the car running as the AP, and the camera units running as SU's (Subscriber Units). At that distance, you should probably be able to access all of them simultaneously that way. Otherwise, if all cameras are running as AP's, each should have it's own channel to run on to avoid interference with each other, and you will have to be able to select which AP to connect to in the car unit's programming. You would need a wireless unit connected to the Laptop, not just the inbuilt wireless for this scenario. Units that close to each other, all running as AP's, is probably not a good idea. There are Mesh/WDS options as possibilities, too, but those implementations get complicated and expensive pretty quickly. Take a look at the Ubiquiti Picostation, http://ubnt.com/picostationm, these could be used at both the camera side, and the car side (they can run as AP or SU). tomdlgns 0 Posted September 9, 2010 is each camera going to have a small PC or some type of hard drive connected to it? i understand the ip camera having its own AP that a wireless device can connect to, but how is the video from each camera being recorded? actually...how and where is it being recorded? thanks.
