help on GeoVision PTZ setup

Recommended Posts

...sure glad I found this msg board. GeoVision support can really only go so far, unfortunately.

I'm a bit of a noob on the setup of PTZ cameras in Geovision. We're running 8.3, GV-600 card. The electrician at one of our remote sites let me know they replaced a PTZ camera. The camera they just installed is a Sony Super HAD PTZ, model number CAMCCD55NV. I sent him the list of support PTZ cameras, based off of information from the Geovision site. That specific camera isn't on that list, but he told me they used the part number/model information from the old PTZ camera to look for a new one. The old PTZ camera definitely worked.

We get the video feed, but can't move the camera. I'm making sure to switch to the right address for the camera (addr: 0 in this case) Here are the settings:

- PTZ Device Setup is checked and set for "Pelco Dome" (what it was always set to)

- Com Port 1 / Baud Rate 9600 / PT Speed 1 / Protocol D / Max Preset 16 / Activate - Normal

I've tried choosing a different camera model, but when I OK out of the settings, it just says that the "[name of chosen model] is not Activated" ... then i'll notice that the setting was changed back to "Pelco Dome."

any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance...

Can you post a screen shot of your setup screen.... could be a few things

1) Verify the com port for your GV-Net card is correct.

2) Verify the dip switches on the new camera match that of the old, if not maybe its using a different protocol?

3) You DID click the activate button in your ptz setup screen right? If its not checked, the settings won't matter. You can save settings for multiple cameras and only activate some of them (we do it a lot in testing).

4) Make sure the RS485 wires are correct. Positve and negative do matter.

Question, are there any OTHER PTZ cameras hooked up over the same 485 wires (same gv-net card). I've found that you cannot use two different protocols on the same gv-net card (for example im using lilin and everfocus ptz cameras, i had to get another gv-net device)

SOme screen shots would help me, im more of a hands on person.

Thanks for the response on this. The camera is in one of our remote locations like I said, so I'll send them this feedback and see what they have to report back on.

I'll let you know as soon as I find something out from them.

Thanks again!

Sorry it's been awhile since I've gotten back to you. The electricians at the remote site just gave me feedback on your suggestions.

They verified the DIP switches and they match the old camera. They also double checked that the new camera is the same model as the old camera. The RS485 wires were checked and swapped around too. It didn't make a difference.

In regards to the COM settings, the last settings were just set to COM 1, but what could I use to verify the right settings? Would that be in the manual of the PTZ camera itself?

Thanks again...

Thanks, the screenshots of our setup are posted above, we are on COM1. I can try COM2 if it'll help though. I'll try to give it a shot tomorrow.

Most PTZs display a splash screen when they're started up, which often contains the camera's current baud/protocol settings. You might want to have the local sparks power the camera down and power it back up, then check the recorded video for that display... just to confirm the settings are what they're supposed to be. I've seen instances where a DIP switch *looks* like it's been toggled, but it's not fully pushed over, and that could cause an incorrect setting.

Unfortunately, despite the model number, there's no guarantee that the new camera is *identical* to the old one. In fact, what I've been able to find searching on that model, looks identical (right down to the wall bracket itself) to a couple of old cheap PTZs I pulled out of a site recently, which were packaged under a different model number with no brand name. When I searched the model, though, I came up with a half-dozen different vendors selling the same - or similar - cameras under their own names. The manuals for most of them were identical, but a couple were different, and showed different connections and DIP switch layouts, meaning even with the same model number, different companies were selling different versions of the same camera.

Anyway, have them check for the startup display to confirm the configuration.

So this is what we got on the feedback from one of the cameras (camera does do a self test panning around, so at least i know there isn't anything wrong mechanically):

Camera S/N: 2060461

Camera ID: 002

Protocol: Pelco-PD

BaudRate: 2400BPS

Model: S052N

Version: V0.22MG

When trying to manipulate this specific camera, I'm making sure I'm at address 1 and I've chosen Pelco-D, baud rate 2400, COM1. Unfortunately, no go.

I really appreciate the help again. Wondering if anyone else has any other thoughts.

Tried it with Pelco P?

Seems to me there an oddity with Pelco protocols where ID 1 on one protocol is ID 0 on the other, etc.

Er... looking again, that camera is showing that it's at ID 2... while you're set to ID 1.

Yeah, in addition to Pelco-D.. tried with both Pelco-P an Pelco-D KT&C PTZ. Figured it'd be one of the last two because lowest baud rate on Pelco-P is 9600.

Alas, none of those worked.

there is a message on the PTZ set up window that says, "To be compatible with early verions, the corresponding address of Pelco camera in the system should be Pelco camera address minus one. For example, when the Pelco camera address is 2, the system address is 1."

This is verified even when you select camera two, the PTZ control automatically changes to Addr: 1
