Some help setting up some PTZ cameras

Recommended Posts

Ok,

So my boss gave me the OK to buy stuff out of pocket and then get reimbursed(Not a crazy budget though) I found a Clinton Electronics with a CAT5 connection and a Ultrak KDZ 8 camera also with a CAT5 connection in the storage area of my store, and I bought 2 PELCO DD5TACs recently. I currently have a GVI multiplexer with a RS-485 built in, I also have a Standalone DVR system in route with a RS-485 connection. I've never set up a PTZ camera before, so i'm kinda of lost as far as knowing what else I need. Obviously a controller for one, but does anyone know off of the top of they're head is there anyway i can possibly set all these up on the same system, and if so, what is the best route to take from this point? Currently everything i have set up is running on coaxial.

Thanks for your time,

MAC

Hi EOD. just trying to talk someone though installing 1 ptz is hard enough over the forum. but you have a mix of ptzs. your best thing is to get a local guy in who knows ptzs. it will save you money in the end run.

Yeah, I figured it was too much of a mess. Can someone at least tell me what is needed for setting up a CAT5 connection type PTZ camera for running it into a standalone DVR with a BNC connection? I'm kinda lost when its comes to just the simple steps of setting this thing up. Not so much specifics, but what equipment is generally used for this set up.

That really depends, because a Cat5e connection could be for network, or it could carry video, control, and even power combined. What's required would be entirely different for each one. And assuming the latter, you'd then have to determine which pair in the cable is which.

If it's just serial control, a DVR with PTZ support is all you need - just connect the "TX" pins on the RS-485 output to the "RX" pins on the camera's serial input... to oversimplify horribly If it's a network camera, you'd need a DVR or NVR that specifically supports that brand, if not the exact model, of camera.
