Avermedia - Cannot send email "Mail failed send"

Hi, I'm really hoping someone can assist

 

Help! I've just purchased an AverMedia SEB3104H and no matter what I try I just can't get the email alert functinality to work (i.e. to send an email). I've entered all of the correct server and user/password details, I've tried multiple email and server accounts that have, both secured (SSL) and non secured and all I get when I click on "Test" is either a 'mail failed send' error OR it just freezes completely and then I get a black screen with a 'Power off' message.

 

I know all of the logins are correct and I've tried using different routers, different cables and even a wireless access point to connect it. I can send and receive email on every other device I have on my network so it just doesn't make sense.

 

I've emailed Avermedia and have not received a response...
