Hi

Hope you don't mind me jumping in.

I think I am in similar situation. I have been a fan of Dedicated Micros, and have six units at various sites. They are quality units, but when they go wrong can be very expensive to repair/replace. I have been looking throught this forum and found the AVTech to be quite a popular unit. I think this will do what I want in most cases at a fraction of the cost of a DM unit. They look to offer good value for money. Is this a good unit for someone wanting a DVR on a budget?

My requirements are:

min 5 channels so I guess this means 8 or 9 channel.

14 day recording

remote viewing and setup

remote viewing using Windows Mobile 6.5

any help or advice appreciated.

I'm also looking for a DVR. There's plenty to choose from but very little with regards to reviews on them that I could find.

Based on features/price (under $1k), I'm currently leaning towards a Samsung SRD850D. Does anyone have any experience with these?

My scenario -

Remote cabin

Need one high resolution camera for front of house to capture details on any vehicles + at least 3 camera's to cover rest of house, maybe a PTZ. 4 seems too limiting, so looking at 8 camera unit DVR's.

Motion Detection

E-mail, specifically with pictures

Remote access

DDNS, NTP, and SMTP w/TLS

I have opted for the AVTech 674.

It is only 4 channels so I am having to rethink a little, but I have managed to get it for less than £120 delivered. This appears to me a very common unit. I have a spare 320gb hard drive to stick in it.

If I find this unit is not enough for me, I have really not lost a lot.

Hi, I would also like some recommendations on a stand alone dvr. I have been looking at so many different ones my head is spinning. Here is what I would like. Thanks!

Stand alone dvr for home.

4 - 8 Camera inputs

Ability to record & watch live/recorded on multi tv's/ipod/android phone/web

I think mpeg4 because it appears to have better image quality

Minimum 14 days record time

Ntsc

Motion detection recording

usb output or at least ability to mark something so it doesnt get deleted

Something you can buy from a retailer?

CNB or Intellicam DVRs. No mobile support with CNB though AFAIK.

If not in the USA then look for Dahua instead of Intellicam.

XTSvideo in the USA also sells the same DVRs.

Lots of good products out now, just hard to get a hold of.

Oh yeah, when you find the best DVR plz let us know
