What systems are viewable ANYWHERE?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I need a system (NVR, DVR ???) that I can view from my work. It's not easy to find ones that are not blocked.

AVTECH demos are blocked.

Video Insight demos - WORK (I have asked for a quote)

What other live demo's are out there? Viewable in firefox, chrome, etc. I certainly cant use anything that needs to install an unsigned ActivX. I can view video from all main video sites such as youtube, etc.

I am guessing that I have to change from analog to IP cameras. But this is just a guess.

Basicaly, I am after a stand alone DVR, NVR, Hybrid - i.e. not just a card.

Any ideas????

Its not that they are blocked, its that the browsers such as FF and chrome dont even support activeX, for a good reason really.

Anyway, you need a dvr/nvr that has a browser app that works cross browser. There are a few but not many. Its generally just jpg images being refreshed using javascript. Personally I prefer a desktop application for better video and more features - even with activeX, only so much one can do inside a browser.

Video insight is one. Anything Axis. Also Exacq vision. Geovision use to have java viewer also.

Thanks, I'll see if I can find any live demos for these. It is not just a problem with unsigned activex, I have tried several demos from work with signed activX and no activeX, and it is very dificuly to find ones that work. I do think that many are are blocked.

Yes in Internet Explorer with ActiveX you would need to change the security settings for most of them, such as by adding the IP/Domain to the Trusted sites list. In newer versions of IE and Windows 7 f or example, there is even more added security so it can be even more difficult and in some cases with any Windows version it also requires adjusting the activeX settings manually under security and custom - if its signed then its less likely to ask for anything else, but thats not always the case. It also depends on if they are installing to certain folders on the computer and for example if its Windows 7 it wont even let it install to some of them, so if its an older one then it wont even work on Windows 7 - though one can try Compatibility mode in the newer IE. With all ActiveX something has to be installed anyway thats why I just choose to use a desktop application, more control and integration with the desktop.

But if you are really into a browser based, I have to say Axis has it down packed, their remote video is among the best in the industry, ofcourse they have been doing it along time. Some say Exacq is good also but ive never seen a demo from them myself.
