Kablooie 0 Posted October 30, 2010 Does anyone know of a method whereby PC activity can be captured and recorded on a DVR via VGA output on the computer? I have a client for whom I maintain their POS system and we've caught recent employee theft at the register. They use different methods, but the most popular is ringing in an inexpensive item ($1) when a more expensive item is purchased ($10) and keeping $9 for themselves. We have a good shot of the POS area on video and have text overlay when the receipt prints (it's amazing how many customers don't want receipts - employees just throw them away). Yesterday he asked if there was a way we could capture the screen and record it on one of the video channels. I think it's a great idea. I thought about getting a tight shot of the computer screen with a camera, but it's too easy to block. I would rather be able to capture the video output from the PC so we can see exactly what's being rung in and play it side-by-side with the video of the POS area. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. We are not opposed to purchasing a new 8ch DVR system whether it be dedicated or PC based.
shropna 0 Posted October 30, 2010 If POS monitor resolution is small (640x480, or 600x800) you can use just simple VGA to PAL (NTSC) converters. Like this: http://www.converters.tv/products/vga_to_pal/512.html And record signal on any DVR. If screen resolution is bigger, this will not work (text will be too small). In this case, if POS PC running on Windows, Mirasys has software solution to do screen encoding ant transmission via LAN and recording on Mirasys NVR. Kablooie 0 Posted October 30, 2010 shropna, thank you very much! I do believe this may work and would be a very simple solution. The screen resolution on the PC is 800x600. Now, why didn't I think of that? DOH I just did a little searching and have a local electronics retailer that carries PC to TV converters. I'm going to buy one in the next couple of days and will report back how it worked out. Thankfully I have RCA to BNC adapters

Kablooie 0 Posted October 30, 2010 Hmmm, that looks very interesting. I can see this working out for some of the folks I do work for. It's certainly soemthing I'll suggest to some people. I know a few who could use it right now. Thanks tomcctv.
pc-cctv 0 Posted February 21, 2015 "PC-CCTV" software for Windows installed on the PC makes the PC to pretend to be an IP camera, streaming desktop activity over the network to a DVR.
jeromephone 6 Posted February 24, 2015 We did this with a pos system that outputted to a bag monitor. We sent the converted video to its own channel you had the camera on the bar and the full video from the cash register on an adjacent channel
