SambaNoodles 0 Posted November 4, 2010 I have a 16-ch GeoVision system based on the GV-1480, and the 8.3.2 software. As it turns out I need another 4-5 cameras, at least. I am torn between whether I should add another GV-1480 card, or just add additional IP camears to the system (no new card required). Apparently, you can add up to 8 IP cameras at no cost to the exisiting system. I am assuming I will need to purchase a more heavy duty (Cisco) gigabit ethernet switch to the system as well. What is the better option? Another GV-1480 card is going to cost $1000+, while the new gigabit switch is probably about $300-$500. Then there is the cost of the cameras. Any suggestions? Harrar 0 Posted November 6, 2010 No cost for up to 8 Geovision IP cameras. If you use another brand, you'll have to purchase the proper USB dongle. As for a Gigabit switch, not needed for only 8 cameras. 100Mbps is sufficient. Haven't seen any IP cams that require 10Mbps each, yet and if your cams are within 100 meters get the PoE type.
