Make sure your ISP is not blocking those ports.

Can you test it with an email program on a computer on the same network?

Eg, using Outlook Express on XP for example can setup a test account with that for outgoing email.

If that works then seems there is an issue with the DVR's email program maybe the SSL part of it.

Perhaps then instead use your ISP's SMTP Server instead without SSL.

I would use the ISP's SMTP server anyway before using Gmail's.

i just found this on gmails site

If you tried configuring your SMTP server on port 465 (with SSL) and port 587 (with TLS), but are still having trouble sending mail, try configuring your SMTP to use port 25 (with SSL).

im going to try port 25 now

Yes port 25 is the default SMTP port. Ofcourse the ISP can be blocking that also, so in that case you would need to set to 25 but instead use your ISP's SMTP server.

Your ISP's SMTP server should be something like SMTP.myisp.com

ask them for this info if you arent sure.

set the SMTP port to the default which is 25, unless the ISP tells you otherwise.

There is no need to use gmail's SMTP, a gmail email address will still receive emails from other SMTP servers.

Yes use your ISP's SMTP server with no SSL, and port 25 as mentioned is the default port.

Stupid question, but have you enabled SMTP access on your Gmail account? SMTP, POP3 and IMAP are not enabled by default in Gmail...

ok so im clear ISP internet service provider..

i have comcast so would i need a comcast email?

If Comcast is like most broadband ISPs, you don't need an email address on the account or even a login for the SMTP server... they limit spam by only allowing SMTP relaying from their own network. You'd just need to use Comcast's SMTP server, probably no encryption, port 25... likely something like smtp.comcast.com. Check with their online support page, they should have server info for "generic" email clients.

You dont need an email address with them, just need to get their SMTP server, thats what you would be using for sending the email out as you are connected to their server.

edit: what soundy said also.

the only thing i can see to enable is pop...and it says pop is enabled

POP is incoming mail, that isnt used on the DVR.

Where do you see POP?

See my post above, set that info in the DVR and it should send email.

Check with your ISP for the user and pass if you dont know it.

As others have mentioned, some ISPs are trying to reduce spam by clamping down on ports and SMTP settings. SBCglobal requires me to use SSL and port 465 at my house when sending email via my sbcglobal account, but not at my brother's house or his place of work which also use sbcglobal. In addition, I had problems getting email to work with my other email accounts, so when SBC began closing ports in our area, I called them and requested that they open port 25 for my house. In summary, a lot can depend on your ISP, and some ISPs will open ports if specifically requested.

Best,

Christopher
