Exacq LAN client stutters

Recommended Posts

I moved ExacqVision from a Windows 7 system to a Ubuntu 10 system. Everything seems to be working fine with one exception. When I use Exacq client on another system (it's a Windows 7 system) on the LAN, the real-time images stutter. The Ubuntu and Windows 7 systems both have 1Gbps Ethernet adapters connected to a full-duplex gigabit switch. The real-time images on the Ubuntu server look fine, and the streams record and play back fine. The stuttering (about 1 second start/stop interval) only occurs on the remote LAN client in real time viewing. I tried another remote LAN client, and that one stuttered too. This was not a problem when the Exacq server was installed on a Windows 7 x64 system.

The Ubuntu system is a new HP Z200 with i5 and 4GB memory. Three cameras are currently installed; two are megapixel, and the frame rates and JPEG compression have been set to modest.

Any ideas?

Also, what is the function of the System Setup->Network->Bandwidth Settings? I did not see a description in the User Manual. I've tried various settings, and none of the settings seemed to have any affect on the client stuttering.

Best,

Christopher

With assistance from tech support (thanks Chad) the stuttering issue has been resolved by changing the upstream bandwidth setting from 10Mbps to OFF.

I was going to suggest not downloading porn torrents while running the client...

You were close. The bottleneck was the porn uploads.

Best,

Christopher

On a side note, but somewhat related subject, I was recently asked to provide a job proposal to an "adult" website for a multicam system (one of those voyeur houses that have cameras all over that customers can 'peep' on the 'residents'). Could have been lucrative, but I don't think my wife would have approved of me spending so much time with such endeavors. But it would have been an interesting technical challenge as many of these sites have huge upstream bandwidth requirements, and the number and variety of cameras (ptz, hidden, b/w ir, etc.) was interesting. But alas, I have to run a family friendly business
