ajatjrc 0 Posted November 23, 2010 I am in the proccess of setting up a ip system. All cameras will be on their own network from the rest of the site ie seprate ip addersses and subnet. Now the question I have is we run sonicwalls in all site the sonicwall allowes me to set up different network segments should I have the sonicwall provide dns addresses to the cameras to allow them to have web access for updates remote admin. The dvr is setup with two seprate network card one for the camera network and the other for internet access.
Soundy 1 Posted November 23, 2010 Cameras don't generally need to be updated on a recurring basis... it's usually just done to address specific issues. Since it's probably something you'd be doing to all the cameras (of the same make and model, anyway) at the same time, it's something that can usually just be done with a site visit, or by remoting into the DVR (VNC, RDP, RAdmin, TeamViewer, etc. etc.). I wouldn't bother giving direct outside access to the cameras unless you need someone on the outside to be able to view them directly.
