hardwired 0 Posted October 28, 2011 Nerd Talk does not frighten me. Actually, it probably should...You're right, Soundy, an ARIN WHOIS lookup and a little cyberstalking is much more useful...His U. of Tulsa football picture looks pretty good, too! You probably shouldn't challenge a pack of geeks

I get >30Mbps down and 5Mbps up, with no caps, and a static IP for 80 bucks/month I get 3mbs down, 512mbs up (more like 384), $50 per month without cable TV static IP extra $20 a month hence the use of DynDns

I use them as my primary email service for my Mobotix cameras. It saves me the hassle of putting an email server onsite for notifications and motion/PIR events. rory 0 Posted October 29, 2011 I get 3mbs down, 512mbs up (more like 384), $50 per month without cable TVstatic IP extra $20 a month hence the use of DynDns I love DynDns... I use them as my primary email service for my Mobotix cameras. It saves me the hassle of putting an email server onsite for notifications and motion/PIR events. I just started using FreeDNS But it is for my website and email. Not bad and works good .. Got a free updater tool they have for download .. so that keeps the IP updated for the domain records in my account there. actually have 2 domain names there now both going to my PC. No uploading to an online host anymore, I just edit the files hit save and its done ... same with uploading exe files etc .. just dump them in the folder and good to go on my PC I have IIS which comes with XP, using HmailServer for my domain's email .. my ISP blocks 25 so I just use the built in relay to send to the ISP's SMTP instead. Got Smarter Stats setup and just finished installing Afterlogic Webmail lite. So now I can access the webmail remotely if I need to also. I dont normally use webmail but figured I would give it a shot anyway. Might try Smarter Mail lite next. Basically other than XP its all free just need to find some decent logging software now for network security. What with all the ports open and all .. And all this on a Pentium 4 ! (plus watching movies) I might set it up on a separate computer at the alarm co though as they have solar. otherwise when my power goes off so does the site .. went off for 2 hours today. or get a mini PC and run some battery backup and see how long that will last with just it, the router and the cable modem connected. Oh yeah .. I can use my website domain name now to connect to my cameras also ... But yes I still use DynDns for clients, as not many will spend the $$ on a domain name just for the DVR, although its only $35 a year or cheaper from other registras. need to run the IP updater though on a PC at the site, or use one of their custom router firmwares. Unless they have a static IP. Anyway .. now thats done .. back to programming
