milwanke 0 Posted January 5, 2011 We have had HDD issues on nearly every system we've built over the last 3 years (over 100). we started using Seagate SV35 drives 2 years ago, this didn't help. Our most common system is: WinXp (pro or home) SP3, Intel DG41RQ MOBO, Intel E5300 Dual Core @ 2.6GHz, Intel G41 Chipset, Nvidia 8400GS 512K GPU, Seagate Baracuda System drive, Seagate SV35 video storage drive, 2GB DDR2 RAM. This issue seems to happen on every model of GV card. It starts with needing chkdsk to run, then system and NTFS errors in the event log, then BSOD and dead drives. rory 0 Posted January 5, 2011 Do you have these systems on Voltage Regulators or UPS with AVR? If not then the likelihood of HDD failure is high depending on where you live.
Soundy 1 Posted January 6, 2011 I've replaced more Seagate drives in the last three years... Try going to Western Digital drives - we've been using the Caviar Black and even the Caviar Green drives in Vigil DVRs and QNAP RAID arrays and have had very few problems... those that have died can be pretty readily attributed to heat in dust-clogged machined. That said, heat is your biggest enemy, with power instability being a close second. You don't have to refrigerate your machines or anything, but having sufficient, properly-routed airflow is critical. That doesn't mean just loading the case up with fans, either; you just need to place and align the fans to keep air moving through smoothly, and it will carry the heat away.
