PTZ Replacement compatibility issues

I am in a really big jam if anyone can help me. I recently put in a bid to replace a PTZ camera that had broken in a Highschool gym. I got the new camera and when I took down the old one I found that there was only one Coax cable, and two 24v power cables.

 

I know that the old PTZ was fully functional prior to breaking. Due to the layout of the school It is impossible for me to run a new CAT5 cable for DATA. The 24v power supply is not near the DVR (computer base), so there is no way to use the power cables for data and set up new power supply. The original camera was 9 years old (unknown make and model). How can I use the PTZ feature with only one Coax Cable?

What model camera and controller are they? It's possible they're using Coaxitron or some other up-the-coax protocol. I haven't looked, but I'd expect you can get a coaxitron-to-RS-485 converter that you could mount in or near the camera.

 

Are you sure both other wires are power? They may have used the same wire for power and control - RS-232/422/485 camera control only requires one pair.

This school surveillance system is a mess. I traced the power supply back to the source and it is a power supply in the same building. The Coax runs to another building under a parking lot and a small stream through a 4 inch conduit to the computer DVR that uses ADVENT software. I am not as educated as I should be on the PTZ and the different protocol. I will try and get some detailed information on the computer DVR Set up. THANK YOU! Make and model of the camera and DVR and/or PTZ controller (keyboard/joystick unit) would help. Check the DVR or controller for output signal wires, and confirm whether both wires at the camera are actually power (test them both with a multimeter!)

I see no reason to have two power cables unless the power is daisy-chained to another camera (not a good thing). Most likely one of the cables you think is for power is actually serial data. It could be either RS422/RS485 or RS232, but most likely the former.

 

RS422/RS485 is not sensitive to cable type, except for very long runs (over 1000 ft.), so it could even be run on 18/2 power cable.

There are several PTZ 's that do up-the-coax control such as Pelco, Panasonic and Infinova. The coax could run straight to a controller and not even be run to the DVR, MPT9000 for example or through a coaxitron generating multiplexer.

I appreciate everyone's input. The camera had the following information, which I cant seem to find the exact model, but I just need something that will work:

The software used is ADVENT - and the some of the cameras feed into a rack mount device that didn't have any markings other than on the back it had the following Ports: LAN, COM, SW1, and in and out BNC connectors.

I've been working with Pelco equipment for over 15 years and I've never heard of a DDTAC.

I appreciate everyones review of my problem. I think I got it figured out. The camera I will be replacing is 10 years old and the model number was dd5tac. Apparently a Spectra model camera will work in it's place. I have ordered one and will be holding my breath until it is working. Thanks again,
