nyczyang27 0 Posted January 10, 2011 Hello, I am opening up a new clothing store. 3 Floors with total of 2500 square feet. I will have 3 cameras on the 1st floor, 2 cameras on the 2nd floor and 1 camera in the basement. The DVR PC based system will be located in the basement (office). I'm too lazy to build my own PC system so I was browsing some DVR retailer websites that sells already assembled PC based systems. I stumbled upon dvrmaster.com and I found something I'm looking for. I'm here to find some second opinions before I pull the trigger. Nothing personal. The PC itself doesn't look all that special - I could probably put together a similar machine for about $300. You don't state what the actual capture card is; sounds from the description like it might be a GeoVision or similar... or a clone. On the whole, quite possibly over-priced. If you want to PM me the link to the store, I'll give it a look. The specs on the cameras are those of any bottom-of-the-barrel domes in that price range. "D1" refers to a recording resolution, not camera output - that suggests a vendor is just throwing in specs to play the thing up. 3.6mm lens is a pretty generic almost-wide-angle lens that isn't really good for much - too narrow for wide-angle coverage, too wide for much detail. Probably over-priced at $64. The cable seems about right for the price... 500ft of Siamese like that retails for around $160 here. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
rory 0 Posted January 10, 2011 Run away from those cameras! SHARP is rubbish. From the image and the specs its a Geovision GV1240 1GB memory and Windows 7 not a great idea as it will be paging to the hard drive alot with Geovision .. with Geovision you want at least 2GB memory, more memory the better. Overall Geo is solid software, newer recent versions requires a really fast computer though. The CPU should be okay, but core2 would be better. The Geo card is what racks that price up, for your first Geovision system you might be better off with just a GV800 or even a GV650 for 8 channels, unless you are a casino or traffic application. Birdman Adam 0 Posted January 10, 2011 I wouldn't buy any dome under $100. Now if you were to say; 'under $200', you would get a lot more recommendations, (for rather nice cameras too). There's kind of a hump there between 'run-of-the-mill' cameras which are junk usually, and actual branded cameras that work rather well. Deciding on recording time is a hard thing... I would use a minimum of 500GB for up to 4 cameras, for 3-4 weeks. If you were using 6 cameras, D1 resolution, I would go for 1TB. Again, that is a very basic assumption, as the type of recording, time of recording, compression, resolution, how many cameras, etc, affects storage usage.
