fireman260 0 Posted January 28, 2011 Hello yall, I'm looking into building a security system with up to 32 cameras. I was wondering if it is worth getting 8 separate DVR's multiplexer's instead of one 32 camera DVR Multiplexer. My theory is, if one 8 DVR Multiplexer fails, i still will have 24 other cameras operational. Is this something I should Consider. Thank You Tim

Thank You Tim buying 8 and being able to view all together you will be a bit limited. you would be better off using 2 x 16 way dvrs. you can get dvrs that link together so you still only need 1 monitor and works just like having a 32 way
SDM Group 0 Posted January 28, 2011 If the budget permits use IP Cameras with redundant storage such as RAID 6 or even mirrored

But in most cases its the hard drive that goes, or the power supply with PC DVRs. AS mentioned in a previous post you could use RAID, dont have to use IP cameras to get that feature but would need to be a PC DVR generally. Using a Voltage Regulator such as one from the APC Line will also aid in protecting the hardware from failure. One more valid reason to split up the DVRs is to get faster frame rates. But in most cases 2x16 channels will suffice.
