John510 0 Posted February 2, 2011 Hi Im John. 1st post. I currently have a PC based system with 11 cameras ran with CAT5 wiring. The installer did a hack job and did not know what he was doing. I need to upgrade but the local installers all want an arm and a leg. My current system will no longer let me log on remotely, freezes the computer, and one of my cards is bad. My question is should I upgrade my PC based system with new cards, hard drives, and a DVD burner, or buy a standalone DVR? If I get a standalone DVR which brand is high end? I only want to buy one once and would rather pay more for something of quality then something low end. I want remote viewing and I also want the option to watch the store on my Iphone. I was looking at the Everfocus Paragon series but the reviews on here seem to tell me that they are poop. Can anyone steer me towards some good brands that will work with my CAT5 wired cameras? Thanks!!!
Soundy 1 Posted February 2, 2011 What cameras are these? Are they running baluns with analog cameras, or are they IP cameras? If analog, what DVR card(s) are you using? Is it the DVR hardware/software itself that's causing the freezing, or a problem with the system itself? If they're analog cameras using baluns, then just about any analog DVR, PC or standalone, will work fine with them. After all this, the next question is, what's your budget? John510 0 Posted February 3, 2011 I do not know what the video card is without opening up my PC. The software is "Skybest" which is junk. The baluns on the card say LLT-202E Balun and my cameras are dome style and say Made in China with part # CAM-412D13 3.6mm lens. As far as budget I do not want to go tooo crazy but dont mind spending 1K on a standalone DVR by itself.
