jsimon 0 Posted June 19, 2005 Remote desktop is not as goode as VNC, you can download it in www.realvnc.com, is a project from Cambridge University, works pretty good, and most important thing you can do forward ports to all your machines using just one puplic IP, this is a problem that Remote Desktop from Windows doesn't handle well. You can use it with its own client or with the Internet explorer, and what you are seeing on life is the same desktop taht you have open, instead another desktop as MS remote Desktop does. WildCard 0 Posted June 20, 2005 Someone had mentioned that VNC is very insecure vs remote desktop. Anyone hear that too? -WC-
Thomas 0 Posted June 20, 2005 Yes and no. VNC is more vunerable to brute force attacks. RD has had some exploits for it. All forms of remote desktop are more insecure then no remote desktop. But the best way to do VNC is via SSH which will make a VPN between the two machines.
keefe007 0 Posted June 21, 2005 You can find out-of-the-box VNC password crackers that will get you into a VNC enabled system within just a few minutes. That's why its good to limit access to specifc IPs or tunnel over SSH like Thomas suggests.
