CCTVmember2011 0 Posted March 4, 2011 Hello. I have an 8-channel digital video surveillance recorder, but there is a ninth, black/blank box. Is this normal? If it is, could anyone explain its purpose? Thanks in advance. (I may have placed this in the wrong section.)
Soundy 1 Posted March 4, 2011 It's normal. In order for the multiple cameras to show normal shape and size (ie. 4:3 aspect ratio), the screen has to be divided into equal segments... that means 2x2 (4 channels), 3x3 (9 channels), 4x4 (16 channels), and so on. Since there are only 8 inputs, one of the channels simply remains blank.
CCTVmember2011 0 Posted March 4, 2011 Ah, I see. Thank you, Soundy. =) One more question: is there any system that allows you to utilize the ninth box for a ninth camera input?
Birdman Adam 0 Posted March 4, 2011 Many DVRs sold have 9 inputs. If you were to open up the DVR you would probably see traces for a 9th input. Its probably disabled in software though.
CCTVmember2011 0 Posted March 17, 2011 Is it possible to find software to allow me to use a ninth input/camera where the blank box is? Or once disabled, is this no longer possible? Would I need to get a new box altogether?
Soundy 1 Posted March 17, 2011 I would say there's a 95% chance that it's NOT possible.
