Why does arecont offer compact series?

 

Is it so that it can fit into smaller dome enclosure/housing?

 

Are their any disadvantages to it being compact, like functionality, image quality or features compared to the regular size? I'm guessing to reduce the size they must have downgraded it some how or not?

I think the compact mjpeg are use less but the compact h.264 can be useful.

It's not useless to me - in fact, I prefer MJPEG because it's simpler for my software to process on the receiving end.

 

Regarding your original question about size, the compact models can fit easily into a small dome enclosure - something a normal-sized box camera could never do. So it gives you more flexibility in housings/mounting.

Arecont H.264 uses less CPU then the JPEG versions. Why pay for a JPEG only camera these days? For the same price as the JPEG only you can pick up multi codec cameras that will be more useful.

 

The AV1315 and AV2815 are Compact H.264. I have the AV2815 and it is very small but not that impressed with the image quality so far.

Areconts compact camera camera is practically the same as the other arecont cameras. What Arecont has done is put all the electronics onto a single PCB allowing the camera to be packaged in a much smaller form factor. This has allowed for lower cost of manufacturing and almost a $300MSRP price difference between its larger brother. The compact does however not have the option for a DC Auto Iris lens.

$1,090.00 MSRP for the AV5110DN. There are better options for that kinda money.

Like compact cameras from other brands, maybe its so one can fit them inside domes and smaller housings? Although their regular camera is already pretty small anyway, just a little wide.
