Alan7 0 Posted March 18, 2011 Hello to all out there. I've joined to seek help having bought a very feeble Wireless SD recorder and single camera. It's probably me but the picture is unstable, poor quality and I dont know how to refine it. The Instruction leaflet is very basic and assumes a level of competance I dont have ? Can anyone please put me on the right track.
Soundy 1 Posted March 20, 2011 The "right track", ideally, is a wired camera - wireless at this level is iffy at best. How far apart are the camera and recorder?
Alan7 0 Posted March 20, 2011 Thanks for your response. Camera is about 12 ft from Receiver/dvr with a brick wall in between. I bought on E-bay and am trying to contact Seller.

Passing signals through Walls and other materials is not quantifiable as the composition of the material and other factors (such as moisture metal content of a wall) will affect the attenuation of the signal. Also proximity to similar ambient frequencies in the location may affect the transmission range and / or signal quality so not much you can do if you are expecting to go though walls. you will also have problems with wireless door bells not just your but everyone who has one in a 100m range including bluetooth devices / wireless routers / baby monitors / other 2.4ghz cctv systems. bpzle 0 Posted March 20, 2011 I agree its not your fault... Let's face it... in residential, how often do you need a wireless camera that has a line of sight (lOS) back to the recviever? If you had a LOS you wouldn't need a damn camera or even wireless! Lol! In my opinion devices like what you bought on the cheap on Ebay are misleading. The average user just assumes if their iPhone can be as awesome as it is and not have wires, so can a CCTV camera. Not so much... The sellers and Chinese manufacturers get away with it because they market to the inexperienced and put in fine print that its for LOS only. Sneaky SOBs.... Alan7 0 Posted March 20, 2011 Thank you guys for your imput. It never occurred to me that door bells (even my own) could interfere in the 2.4Ghz range. Looks like a bad purchase. I only required 1 camera and recorder to oversee garage and parking space so thought the cheapest would suffice.
Soundy 1 Posted March 20, 2011 Not just doorbells - all sorts of consumer equipment operates within the same narrow 2.4GHz bandwidth. Cordless phones, alarms, doorbells, audio and video transmitters, cordless keyboards and mice, RF remotes... and yes, basic WiFi and bluetooth also operate in the 2.4GHz band.
