surveillance22 0 Posted March 24, 2011 Hey everyone, new to the forum. I need some help with a few things. Right now I own a Canon VB-C60 and my hopes were to use it for P.I. Surveillance (which is my profession). This way I could set the camera up, and not have to physically be there holding the camera. The set up worked fine, I used Wimax/Clear to broadcast the video, but the VB-C60's panning isn't very smooth. When your controlling the camera you have to point and click, or use the panning arrows...both which result in shaky, unimpressive movement that makes it hard to follow the person your recording. I then embarked on a journey to find a joystick that is compatible with the camera, but I had no luck. So does anyone know of a joystick that works with the VB-C60? And if not is there another camera that you would recommend that has a smooth pan/tilt movement, that's compatible with a joystick? Thanks a lot for your time guys. The problems with camera control have more to do with your internet connection. When using public networks you need to balance the bandwidth for the best performance. http://www.chproducts.com/oem/finger_ip_desktop.html Edited March 24, 2011 by Guest
Soundy 1 Posted March 24, 2011 Looking at the manual, it does not appear there's any way to control this camera by joystick. Since the camera doesn't accept direct RS-232/485 input, you'd have to use software with it that accepts input from a standard computer joystick. It doesn't appear that the bundled software will do this, and with this being a consumer-grade "webcam", there's probably little or no third-party software support for it. thewireguys 3 Posted March 24, 2011 A USB joystick like the one I posted above might control the camera when you use the web interface. (I have done this with Axis PTZ cameras but they have a Active X control that supports this). The USB joystick will work with VMS software like Exacq and Avigilon. I am assuming you are recording video with this camera what are you using?

I am assuming you are recording video with this camera what are you using? I'm using a Viostor NVR to record the video. I talked to Canon and they didn't "recommend" any joystick, which means they didn't make one themselves. I've been directed to the joystick you said, but no one knows for sure if it works. I just didn't want to go out and buy it if it didn't work. I'm open to other camera suggestions though, because I really need this joystick to work. I want something that I can put on a tripod, point it in a direction, and when the person I'm watching comes out..I want to be able to use a joystick to move the camera to follow the person I'm investigating. bmorisoli 0 Posted August 13, 2011 I have three canon cameras. I too want a joystick for controlling the cameras. The canon software to control the cameras is marginal and provides a choppy image as the camera follows the subject. If I had know this at the time I purchased the cameras I would have gone with Sony cameras. I have a friend who developed an app fora iPhone to control the canon cameras from the iPhone. I have him working on joystick software for the canon cameras. I am hopping he can do the same for the joystick control
Soundy 1 Posted September 7, 2011 Spy camera purchase newbies might feel hard to understand tricky specification stats as there are so many terminologies in the description. Actually, these products are produced based on the same theory. You could find the majority of hidden camera products descriptions have many points in common. If you know one item very well, it will become easy for you to understand others, except spy devices for military or professional use. WTF?

hardwired 0 Posted September 7, 2011 To the OP: if the camera supports some type of input from the keyboard or mouse, you may be able to use Eventghost (freeware, http://www.eventghost.org/) to map joystick control to those inputs (you could try it with a cheap game joystick first). To moreper: the best plan here is to respond with pertinent, intelligible information.

bmorisoli 0 Posted December 24, 2011 I also have three canon cameras. The software for operating the cameras is not the best. It makes following movement a jerky experience. I made the mistake of assuming that the cameras would have joystick capable operations. I would not recommend the canon cameras without some sort of fix from canon that allows for joystick control.
