troy6363 0 Posted March 27, 2011 Has anyone ever used this in wall viewer? Is it really necessary if I am drilling upward in the room where the dvr will be located. I am afraid of running into fire stops. Is it best to drill up from the room where dvr is located or is it best to drill down from the attic?
Soundy 1 Posted March 27, 2011 I'd go into the attic first and look at the structure and locations and directions of the rafters or joists... then drill from below, starting with a small bit to make test holes before drilling the big hole. If you're in a house, the only thing you should have to worry about running into is the joists or rafters (or wires or vents or something, but those should be easier to avoid). A stud finder is your friend.
troy6363 0 Posted March 27, 2011 How should I drill upward. I saw a pic of a guy who bought a 6ft flexible extension drill bit to drill up past any firestops and into the attic. Is this the way its normally done?
