outdoor daynight surveillance camera to cover 6kilometer

Recommended Posts

Hi mates

I am looking for a security camera which can view up to a distance of 6km with day/night viewing capability. The view should help detection and is not intended for identification.

Could you guys suggest any product that can serve our requirement

Regards

Do you have an idea of budget and what is the type of environment?

I would be curious to see what a camera that can see that far would cost. I imagine the lens alone would be $10,000+

www.obzerv.com makes a product that will do what you want. Depending on configuration, the price will be around $200-$300K USD. I can put you in touch with the right people there if you like.

Pentax's PAIR lens may also be an option. I believe those are much cheaper, around $25K USD, IIRC.

Camera is a 16MP Avigilon Pro (anyone know the current MSRP on these things?).

Lens is Sigma 300-800mm (retail about $8,000) with 2X teleconverter ($300).

Tripods actually look exactly like my setup - Manfrotto 190CX legs with 486RC2 ball head (latest version of this package: http://www.manfrotto.com/product/8374.398.86698.0.0/190XB%252C496RC2/_/TR190XB%2BHD496RC2) - package price about $280 each.

How is the low light performance on these cams? Are they managing noise well?

Yeah, Yaletown at night, not a lot of street lighting - everyone seems to like it "low-key" in the area, more trendy that way...

Thanks. That's not too bad at all. In the second shot I can see the ambient light source being reflected off the bricks so I am guessing there is probably more light than what one would find in most poorly lit situations. I think the weird coloration on the dumpsters is from flare or reflections of a nearby light source on the camera's enclosure. The noise looks acceptable. I guess the true test would be to see images from an area that is only lit by a full moon with no other light pollution. I would like to be there in person to see this installation and lighting to be 100% sure. Thanks again for posting these images as they are very helpful.
