I can see cctv from other locations/pc but not fromlocation?

Recommended Posts

Hi. A person set up my cctv system. All working from his monitor and even from two other locations/pcs. The problem is i cannot get the camera pictures on my pc. All the pcs are Windoiws XP. The set up is on a wifi modem ADSL. Even from the same room on my laptop I can see the camera visuals(connecting through the wifi modem)

Why I cannot see from my pc. THIS MUST BE A SOFTWARE ISSUE. What can I do to solve this problem??My pc has recently been formated and only a year old tower. Look forward to your help. Thanks.

It's going to be hard for anybody to help you without more details.

What kind of camera/s are you using?

Are you using a web browser or client software to view the cameras?

If you are using client software, which software is it?

Are the cameras connected to a server that is recording the video? In otherwords, are you trying to connect to the server, or directly to the camera to view this video?

As much detail as you can give about the setup/install would greatly help.

thanks for reply.

My cameras (shop cctv) are connected to a DVR-EVERFOCUS ELR4F. DVR connected to a modem and my pc (windows xp) . I connect to DVR via IP address.I have a visual from any pc I have used (via internet) but not from the pc which is connected directly to the modem.Maybe I have a software issue with my pc. I have downloaded java of course. I am a humble retailer and not an IT guy. I will appreciate any help. Thanks.

When you are trying to view the video, are you connecting to the EVERFOCUS via a web browser, or client software? Are you using internal or external IP (i take it you are on the same network as the DVR, right?)? If you are connecting via web browser, is IE/Active-X required with this DVR (im not familair with everfocus stuff)?

I am confused by some of your statements, and I *am* an IT guy:

DVR connected to a modem and my pc (windows xp) .

Not sure what you mean here. Do you mean that your DVR and PC are both connected to the router/switch? Do you even have a router/switch on this network? Or is the cable modem plugged directly into your DVR

I have a visual from any pc I have used (via internet) but not from the pc which is connected directly to the modem.

So are you saying that other computers can connect over the internet, via the external IP, but your one internal computer cant connect via the interal IP? I am a bit confused by your wording.

Hello Alpine

Thanks for your replies.

So, My DVR is connected to the modem via a network(no direct cable) and the modem connected by direct cable to my shop pc.

From other pcs eg my home pc (external IP) I can see the cameras . When I try to see the cameras from my shop pc 'internal and external IP' (which is directly conmnected to the modem etc) I have no visual of the cameras. I get the picture frame of the DVR, BUT NOT THE CAMERA PICTURES. I have tried with my firewall deactivated but still no luck.Java also downloaded and active x permission. I used web browsers MOZILLA and also INTERNET EXPLORER but stil no joy!

locally you have to use the LOCAL IP... not the outside ip... what is the local IP of the dvr server?

if your local network is 192.168.1.1 then you have to type in local address on local network...
