KT&C Bullet Cameras

Hi,

 

I have been tinkering with security cameras for my home for

a few months now and have tried the KT&C KPC-S190SWX.

The camera is only Black and White but it seems to do pretty

well at night in the darker areas around my house (outdoors).

The price also seems very good ($45-50 each).

 

 

I am getting ready to order more cameras but I wanted to

check and see how everyone feels about this camera and

if there is anything better in this price range.

 

Oh, I should mention that I want to install these as

hidden cameras outdoors.

I have found that outdoor covert cameras need to have a WDR, wide dynamic range, and should be as low light sensitive as possible.

I have had best results with B&W cameras especially at night. The worry is where to locate them to keep them dry. I often locate the

camera as far away as I dare and fit an appropriate lens size to capture the focal plane I require.

I have an alleyway near my house, and all the trouble with teens we get starts there. It is 40 feet away and they gather about 15 feet of the area so I use a 9mm lens with a 1/4 ' ccd and 13mm with a 1/3. There is a sodium street light there and the camera is 0.00019 lux rated. Even at night I get a good image and during the day too.

The camera is openly visible if you look for it, at the front of my house fitted to a housing. I don't think any of the teens have spotted it yet and even so they would not think it could record them there. So as well as by concealing them, hide cameras by distance where possible too.

 

I don't know the range of cameras you mentioned as I only just found out who the distributor in the UK is. I intend to see as they make a great range of lenses for board cameras, up to 50 mm WOW.

The KT&C are better at night than some of the old box

cameras I have tried and certainly better than the inexpensive

cameras at the big box stores.

I think you can change the lenses on the KPC-S190SWX so

I may try a 6mm or 8mm lens for the sides of the house where

I'm only interested in a narrow FOV.

 

I've seen the CNB DFL-20S mentioned and am wondering if

I could weatherproof them and hide them. I don't know if

that would be possible and whether other lenses are available

for the CNBs. I wonder how everyone feels about the CNBs

now that they have used them for a while. If anyone has

any other camera suggestions I would appreciate them.

 

I have a wide range of lighting in my yard but in most cases

I can position the cameras where this does not present too

much of a problem for most of the day, so I think I can get

away with inexpensive cameras for now.

 

I have had problems with teenagers hanging around in my

front and back yards when I am not home. My main

interest is to just determine that someone is there that

should not be. I don't expect to identify them with this

level of camera.

Thanks for the information. I might try one of the CNB

cameras before I buy more KT&C. I could use the outdoor

version and try to hide it somehow.

 

The color would be nice and I'm curious to see how the

performance compares under low light conditions.

Seeing as i use all of the cameras mentioned, cant beat the BW bullet for night vision, sucks during the day though. Single CCD day night cameras still have a LONG way to go. That said, if you were to add IR then the CNBs work great. The DFL-20s is not a day night camera BTW, they do better than other cheap color domes though, but still they are mainly for indoors with alot of light - that said I put 2 outside under an eave for a client that INSISTED, from last year august, though we dont have winters like they do up north and the rainy season is about to kick in soon so will see if they last then. A friend of mine also put one outside their business and it still works, with a 2.5mm lens, but can never get the edges focused on it so best stick with the lens it comes with, and at night it doesnt see much. Besides the VFL-20s is the outdoor version of it.

 

what I want to try next are a couple KT&C day night cameras:

I would have said an overt camera, with a sign ans a couple PIR lights would deter these teens.

Try stringing a speaker out there and playing classical music at a low volume ( don't want to fall out with the neighbours)

Another thing to remember about identifying offenders is that many of them habitually wear the same clothing day in day out.

 

Ihave hidden cameras in short lengths of drainpipe painted in camo green with a stopped end over the back and a pplexiglas disk glued to the viewing end. This can be fitted to a bracket by making a saddle out of a scarp of wood and fixed to the bracket All I had to buy was the end cap and the plexiglass disk. ( It won't work with IR) There is plenty of room to hide a balun and using cat5 is a lot easier Use a pigtail balun and connect direct to the board (sometimes necessary to remove the BNC but it works just fine)

 

Another place you can hide a camera is in a bollard in your garden Thats a hollow metal post to those of you who think it's something else!

Wow, thanks, that's a lot of good information.

 

The drainpipe idea is a good one, I could do that with

the KT&C cameras as they are about the size of a large

lipstick tube and they are waterproof.

 

Maybe the CNBs are not what I need if they are not

good in low light situations. I probably should stay with

the KT&C cameras.

 

I would like to change the lenses on a couple of the

KPC-S190SWX. Do you just unscrew the front of the

case and install the new lens? We have a lot of humidity

here (Florida) and the outside camera looks foggy in

the morning until it warms up due to condensation.

Is there else I should do? I can't find any instructions

for changing the lenses.

 

I wish an overt camera would do the trick, but around

here they pretty much laugh at cameras.

I got the KT&C KPC-N501NU-B

700TVL 2.8-12mm TDN IR bullet, 940nm IR

 

Note if you want alot of IR dont get this, go up a step to the N700 which is both 830nm and much more IR.

 

This is a good TDN Bullet with Exview so it sees in very little light, the IR is just a small bonus in this case, but is short range maybe 30 feet outdoors. It does seem to spread the IR it has though which is common with Exview. Also if you add another IR LED with further IR it lights the area up even better. Also it has a remarkably good color night image at this test location, where other cameras I test there tend to be not all that great, this infact is much better than the CNB monalisa in that regard, and infact they both see about the same under extreme low light (this is clearer though).

actually this cheap color IR has a little more IR than other cheap Color IRs I have used.
