issues with a ir dome camera

Recommended Posts

I just installed a couple of camera's for a friend that he got for his gym. As soon as I opened the box I noticed it was not really meant to be out side. But he used the same type at his other places so I put them in. I ran the cameras on cat5 with utp. They are in a mall parking lot and a dealership with super bright lights across the way. These are IR domes with 42 irs. The camera changes from color to day night but in the day night mode when cars drive by it blinds the camera. The company I work for never mess with ir camera's and when we do they are normally inside. Anybody know what I can try?

The problem doesn't sound like its IRs side the blinding is happening in the day correct? Most likely the glare from windows and or paint is reflecting highly on the cam and can't focus. Like you stated these are not outdoor cams. My advice is to get some Outdoor day night cams that are made to handle natural light conditions

Sounds like cheap IR domes and if thats the case half the time they look blurry or out of focus at night so glare from headlights will be normal, plus they normally just are really bad cameras to begin with, cheap cameras have poor light handling and add IR in there its a bad mix. Also make sure they just arent dirty, IR at night and water marks will cause it to do that also.

Sorry I had a few to many Golden wheats when i wrote this. I hate when something I put in does not work right and I can't answer why. But the camera's has 42 ir led's I guess I was not to clear. But it does have a great picture at day, but during night it's bad. The darker it is the worse the white out. Thanks for all the help, and I agree I don't believe it has a cut out for all the light it takes in. Since it does not have glass dome like a vandal proof does I don't think it will last long in the weather any way's. You get what you pay for....
