Standalone LPR software?

So, looking to fiddle with some LPR stuff and wondering if there's any (preferably open-source or free-demo) software out there than can run independently of the NVR and work with a variety of IP cams or even an MJPEG or H.264 stream? If it can write to a database or output to a text file, that's even better, but mostly just wanting to play with the recognize/OCR side of things...

Thanks... I tried Google and the only thing I found that wasn't a hideously expensive complete system was supposed to be a demo of some commercial package, but I couldn't find the actual demo download. Guess my Google-fu is weak today.

Hi there, just to give this thread a "bump"...

 

Is there any reasonably priced, standalone LPR software on the market?

I am not a programmer to implement SDK into anything. Just something that works and doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

Update:

I tried the software but with LPR it crashed all the time. Also it did not detect the cameras via my Geovision card.

I tried it via desktop monitoring when it crashed. Otherwise it looks like an easy interface.

Is it possible with a LPR software to connect 2 or 3 cameras instead of a single one to get a better recognition of the same car at the same time?

It wont work with your Geovision card, at least not using GeoVision's drivers.

You would need to totally get rid of Geo and its drivers and install BT drivers, but even then if you are lucky enough to have a card that will work with those (not a Combo card for example), it will still only work with 1 channel at a time (normally).

 

You would be best buying a capture card specifically for LPR, GeoVision will be one of the hardest to get to work outside of the GeoVision software.

This is free and open source. The library was a little tricky to compile but it is fast and very accurate.

Any tips on what to download, how to compile it (I currently don't have a C compiler on my Windows PC).

 

Did you use the CLI to run it or wrote your own app calling the API. I'm not a C developer, but maybe I can develop a vb app around it if it's possible.

Well, I had to get a Linux machine setup to get it compiled. I'm not a Linux guru, so that's probably what was the most difficult thing. But I know a little C++.

 

I'm just using the CLI app after I got it compiled. I wrote a small Python script that listens to web requests and then calls the command line to analyze the plate image.

 

You can download it from GitHub https://github.com/openalpr/openalpr

 

You need "git" installed to download it.

 

I'm not sure if it will run on Windows... I haven't tried it.
