amani 0 Posted May 31, 2011 I'm new to IP cameras, and have been tasked with coming up a new camera solution for the next 10 years. We have 25 Pelco Spectra III cameras in use, and 10 Axis 232D and 221 cameras. A majority of our cameras are connected to an Axis video servers using coaxial cable. I like the Axis cameras but I like what I've read about VideoIQ. My concern about the VideoIQ is that it may not handle the cold weather (think near the Canadian border). I want also to implement a fully-meshed network. I've heard about Firetide and Allied Telesis. Any recommendation about who might be better?
NotoriousBRK 0 Posted May 31, 2011 Our cameras (VideoIQ) will handle cold weather just fine. Standard models go down to -20C operating temp (keep in mind the cameras generate some of their own heat), and extended temp models go down to -30C. We have units deployed across parts of Canada and other regions that get very cold with no issues. Add Fluidmesh to your list of mesh network companies to check out. amani 0 Posted May 31, 2011 Some of the coldest temps I've seen last year were around -34C without the windchill. Our current camera domes have heaters and fans, so I'm looking at cameras with similar setups. Thank you for the tip on FluidMesh.
RedSq 0 Posted June 6, 2011 Well. I've heard good things about Fluidmesh but recently we had installed a few Ubiquity units and I'm pretty happy with the setup. I've been getting stable 160-180Mbit throughput (according to built-in speed test, these are 5Ghz models). Distance is about 1000', no obstructions. Second Eth port on AP is PoE enabled so it is great for pole mounting the whole set (AP, camera). Cost is more than affordable (less than $100).
thewireguys 3 Posted June 6, 2011 I install both VideoIQ and Fluidmesh. Both are great products that do exactly what the manufacture claims. I will say Fluidmesh is a little over kill for simple PTP links across parking lots but it is expandable to MESH system and is not standard Wifi solution. Install, setup and network monitoring is simple.
