mitbug2 0 Posted June 8, 2011 I'm in the process of putting together a residental system (mine) pc dvr (Geo-8 channels card) with 5 camera outdoor and 3 indoor. I'm having problem of selecting what camera to buy. I have been reading about the CNB but according to some people here (Rory and others), they not too much in favored with them. To quote " Im distancing myself from the CNB cameras now after my last job using them (other than maybe the dfl-20s), they just dont seem to have the quality. In fact they look gawd awful on some DVRs, while other cameras, even cheap no name ones, do a better job. They do have the low light capability that many others dont, but the daytime color images tend to be mostly bad." So if you guys can recommend some brand, model of camera (dome) in the same money ranges I would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The only recommendation we ever do is to show our cameras , or actual video of our cameras. Ask for some sample footage in conditions similar to what you envisage, or for remote access to a system using the cameras. If you haven't seen the cameras performance before you buy it, don't buy it. The problem with camera recommendations is that Perceptual Resolution is a very real issue. The guy that's making the recommendation may be suffering from a de-generative eye condition, or be color blind to some degree --- as i am (Technically color safe - not blind) - but i can assure you that in a game of snooker, i can't tell the difference between the red and the brown ball!! Birdman Adam 0 Posted June 9, 2011 I'm a DIYer as well... CNBs are good, no doubt about it. Mainly because the quality they offer for the price is hard to beat. I stick to the Monalisa ones, and have used many vandal-domes from them. The last 8-camera setup I did was with 6 VCM-24VFs for outdoors, and two DBM-24VFs for indoors. VCM-24VF: http://cnbusa.com/en/html/product/product.php?seqx_prod=1073 DBM-24VF: http://cnbusa.com/en/html/product/product.php?seqx_prod=1066

If that is what you get a lot...then why you keep doing it...how does that help me? There are thousand of brands, quality, prices, how do people like me (not in the profession) able to determine what's good for my situation without starting to ask questions first. I have been reading info from this forum to see if I can pick up anything which would help me deciding which brand or make model to use for my situation ( which is part of the research). If according to your input, everybody here needs not ask any question but to ask all company to do demo for them? Be for real, who the hell can do all that? What you told me is ideal situation, which is 100% correct, but common man...it's unrealistic.

I have been reading about the CNB, but of lately, people distance themselves from it, therefore I have second thought about using them. I guess am looking for confirmation that it's good enough for the price as compared to other brands. Thank you.

I suggested you get first hand visuals of the camera's performance - nothing beats seeing the pictures you are going to get. ----> The kind of answer you gave me is common amongst DIY installers. When I am offering my advice for free, with no intention of making a sale to someone on the other side of the planet - and get that type of response ---- it's best to leave the inquirer find help somewhere else, as such I won't respond beyond this. Nimrod 0 Posted June 10, 2011 The CNB Monolisa line are very good cameras, You will have to spend about 3X more for a better camera. Here is a list of the good ones. CNB DBM-24VF 1/3" 600TVL, Indoor, true day/night, DC Iris M13 2.8-10.5mm .005 lux CNB DBM-24VD 1/3" 600TVL, Indoor, fixed IR cut filter, DC Iris M13 2.8-10.5mm .05 lux CNB DFL-20S 1/3" 600TVL, Indoor, fixed IR cut filter, M12 3.8mm Fixed .05 lux CNB VCM-24VF 1/3" 600TVL, Outdoor Vandal true day/night, DC Iris M13 2.8-10.5mm, .005 lux CNB VCM-24VD 1/3" 600TVL, Outdoor Vandal fixed IR cut filter, DC Iris M13 2.8-10.5mm, .05 lux CNB VFL-20S 1/3" 600TVL, Outdoor Vandal fixed IR cut filter, M12 3.8mm, Fixed .05 lux The VF versions are much better than the 20S ones in terms of sensitivity and ability to accept 24vac and 12vdc. The VD ones are not true day night so poor low light response like the 20S. And do not worry about Rory’s post, if i remember right he got mad because an order was screwed up and he has not found any camera to replace the CNB with. I'll second Adam's statement - CNB's other cameras are "good enough", but the Monalisa models are currently one of the best you can get *for the price*. Something better might come along tomorrow, but right now, the VCM-24VFs are our model of choice for analog cameras, indoor and out. True-day/night, 2.8-10.5mm lens, and dual-voltage support makes them extremely versatile as well.
mitbug2 0 Posted June 10, 2011 Thank you all for replying to my question for recommendation...I do appreciated very much. I do try to get the best i can for the money by watching company advertisements, see on internet demo if possible and most of all by asking forum members that used this before to give me some input. I do respect Rory comment, because long times ago he has help me alot with another system ( I know he complained a lot about import taxes, and duties etc... but he spoke like he felt about the product). Thank you all again.
