BigSmoothy 0 Posted June 16, 2011 In our day care center we are currently using 8 analog camers connected to a Geovision gv-800 card. I would like to make the switch to an ip system. I recently purchased two Acti 4201 poe cameras and a poe switch, now I need some nvr software. I also already have a dual core machine that I can use. I was interested in Exacq Start but I understand that you can only run that on their appliance, is that true? We will also need at least three concurent connections to the cameras from a combination of client or web interface. I am now willing to consider any other vendor. Any resellers feel free to pm me. Also is there a solution without purchasing a video encoder that will allow me to use both the analog and ip cameras, (hybrid?)? Thanks.
Soundy 1 Posted June 16, 2011 Newer versions of GeoVision can operate in a hybrid capacity - just add the IP cameras licenses (and upgrade version if necessary).
BigSmoothy 0 Posted June 16, 2011 Would'nt I need to upgrade to the nvr software, in order to stay with Geovision? I really hate the Geovision interface (at least the version I have 8.3) and the fact that you basically have to run another app to view recorded material. Soundy 1 Posted June 17, 2011 Honestly, my only hands-on experience with GV has been maintaining a few existing systems for a client, and eventually removing those and upgrading them to Vigil machines, so I really couldn't tell you the specifics of how the IP cameras integrate... I just know GV can do it. The Vigil systems we use seamlessly integrate IP and analog cameras; in fact, the Vigil NVR is the same server software as the DVR/hDVR, just without the capture hardware. However, they're only sold as a complete turnkey system (you can't just buy the software), and they're not cheap.
