Suggest a PCI card please

Hi, could someone please help me find a suitable PCI card with a resoltuion of 720x480 or 720x576 or maybe higher? also supporting PAL and NTSC.

 

can someone please tell me the advantages of these cards and the disadvantages aswell as some shops and prices.

What is your budget, how many camera channels, and what features are necessary for you? (Remote Access, etc.)

just require recording to harddrive and searching, money isnt really an issue but ill say about $900 with about 4 cameras, want a good quality system

may as get an 8 channel 120/120 one time, in case you want to add 1 or 2 more cameras .. meanwhile with 4 cameras it would be real time. GEO has 720x480 ... get the DSP card as well though if you really want great live video, or maybe just the 4ch Hybrid card (scott?) ..

You could get a 4 channel 120/120 card, thats real time record and display, set it to 720x480. Add a DSP card which gives you higher quality (like an analogue output) to a TV or CCTV Monitor. You would just use the CCTV Monitor (or TV but higher res on a CCTV monitor) for live display - you cant control these displays though but just set it to a quad mode and you are good to go. They are configurable in the DVR software and you put it on windows start up so the DSP output always loads the set view. The software has multiple view settings.

 

Then you can get a KVM Monitor switcher for an existing PC Monitor (like your other computer) and only swicth that when you need to playback or change settings. Or you can playback over the network or internet, and even load something like VNC on the DVR PC so you can also change settings over the network, or internet.

 

The higher quality of 720x480, only is really noticeable when using high resolution cameras. Also, it eats up more hard disk space as the file sizes are much larger, so you would need to use larger Hard disk drives, then if setting it in 640x480 mode.

 

So basically your highest quality will be using a DSP card output, and it will display real time video and a multi view, which is initially set up in the DVR software from installation.

sounds great, just going to use it for home and office recording, any ideas on some good cameras? want to be able to cover night time too and be discreet to the eye

Well personally use the WizKid Cameras primarily now, they are simple to install, vandal resistant, and not that expensive. Need to work out whether you need Color, BW, or Day Night. The later is more expensive though, so id suggest BW to save on cost if the area is low light. I also use the Extreme cameras (same company) but they are very expensive for most jobs.

 

There are other brands like Provideo, Hunt, etc, that are mid range, and pretty decent cameras. I just found the WizKids to have the easiest to install Domes Ive ever used, and a decent picture to go with it. Provideo has a huge line of Bullet cameras also. GE Security has the best line of hidden cameras, their value line of discreet cameras being the least expensive, only for indoors though.

its for monitoring the outside of my house, after 2 really good quality cameras and 2 not so good. day and night!

That means "cop" usa cams and cards. Although the cheap DVR cards that Cop has are not bad at all considering the price.

 

The cameras? uh!! GARBAGE (but they have a nice bullet)

well to be extact im looking at 1500 to 2000$ or in the region of £1000 this is only for the card and the cameras, not the pc or cables!

 

anyone got some good examples of the picture quality?

chris, I did a 2 cam system for $1800

you could use some cheaper parts to get to a 4 cam system.
