Scan Lines on Image when Viewing LED Screen

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

Technical problem here that I was after your expert advice on.

We have an LED Screen (similar to the ones used at big events, stadiums etc)

We have surveillance cameras which monitor the area surrounding the screen and the image that is displayed on the screen. We would like to stream this image to an iphone app and a monitoring center

I am using the Arecont Megapixel range and they work great when looking at the screen dead on. (http://www.arecontvision.com/index.php?section=product&subsection=product_details&product_id=9)

However some sites, due to constraints, I am not able to do this, hence the monitoring camera has to be mounted at an angle as it looks at the screen (not dead on). When this occurs, scanning lines roll through the screen as viewed from the camera.

I am assuming that it is the refresh rate of the LEDs as viewed from an angle.

What are you recommendation to camera selection or settings that would help me with this issue.

Thanks in advance.

Sam

Some cameras have a "privacy" option that lets you blank out an area of the image - you could use that, if present, to blank the part that's looking at the screen.

You could also try changing the shutter speed - if you can get it the same as the monitor's refresh, it SHOULD help the issue. Locking the shutter speed may cause other issues with exposure, though.

Thanks for the feedback, thing is .. I want to be able to monitor the image on the screen, so the privacy option is not the way to go.

Not sure if it'll help in your case, but there's a 50 Hz / 60 Hz setting in the cam you might check. Matching the power frequency fixes flicker under some artificial lighting.

can you not just add a sling box to your large monitor. put your image into sling box first then to monitor. then you can stream how ever you want.
