CCTV with live monitoring and guard dispatch might have helped identify the intrusion. The award was for lack of overall security including preventing access to the unauthorized and verification.

Sounds like she bought a false sense of security.

Sounds like the issue is the company made promises of security it failed to deliver on. It they never had fences, guards, access control, or never agreed to provide any of it, then there wouldn't be a case.

 

And a CCTV system with a guard monitoring still probably wouldn't have stopped this. Common sense for own personal well being (ie: don't open doors to strangers) has to come into play at some point to truly be secure.

Well sounds like the security people didn't live up to their promises... Sounds fair to me that they should pay!

 

However, this lady was being a bit dumb, just opening the door without any identification!!

Agree with everyone on the woman taking her own precautions, but there are more and more cases of establishments being sued for not providing adequate security and thought it might be useful to mention to potential customers.

FWIW, here in California, many Home Owner Association management companies recommend the opposite, which is to say, do absolutely nothing. HOAs have been sued because they added some surveillance cameras, and therefore assumed the responsibility for providing security, and when someone suffers injury, the HOA did not fulfill that responsibility, and is therefore found negligent.

 

You can't win. And you can't quit the game.

it may be better for all security cctv companies to change all there wordings in quotes and contracts in florida.

 

reading the news paper link. it all turns to the words SECURITY. security is protection. and thats were the system failed.

 

Security means protection

 

surveillance means monitoring (monitoring of the behavior, activities)

 

i would just change all paperwork and signage
