rory 0 Posted June 27, 2011 Unfortunately, there is nothing CCTV could have done to stop that attack.
SDM Group 0 Posted June 27, 2011 CCTV with live monitoring and guard dispatch might have helped identify the intrusion. The award was for lack of overall security including preventing access to the unauthorized and verification.
rory 0 Posted June 27, 2011 Sounds like she bought a false sense of security. She opened the door to a complete stranger.
HTElectrical 0 Posted June 29, 2011 During the six-day trial, trial, jurors learned that Cornerstone — in applying for affordable housing tax credits from the state — had agreed to provide a gated community with card-access entry. But apartment managers left a pedestrian gate unlocked during the day when Davis got in, and security guards only worked at night. "There was nobody whose job it was to monitor safety during the day," Lipsky said. Also, the gates were easily scaled. And residents were not notified of crimes on the property, as the company had spelled out in its internal policies. "The manager testified that she didn't know she had to do that because she had never read the company's manual," Lipsky said.

Campbell 0 Posted June 29, 2011 What if the guy had lived there... she opened the door without knowing who it was. Why does no one take responsibility for their actions these days :/
fa chris 0 Posted June 29, 2011 Sounds like the issue is the company made promises of security it failed to deliver on. It they never had fences, guards, access control, or never agreed to provide any of it, then there wouldn't be a case. And a CCTV system with a guard monitoring still probably wouldn't have stopped this. Common sense for own personal well being (ie: don't open doors to strangers) has to come into play at some point to truly be secure.
Birdman Adam 0 Posted June 29, 2011 Well sounds like the security people didn't live up to their promises... Sounds fair to me that they should pay! However, this lady was being a bit dumb, just opening the door without any identification!! I'm always looking out the windows the moment someone pulls in my driveway! SDM Group 0 Posted June 29, 2011 Agree with everyone on the woman taking her own precautions, but there are more and more cases of establishments being sued for not providing adequate security and thought it might be useful to mention to potential customers. cglaeser 0 Posted July 2, 2011 Agree with everyone on the woman taking her own precautions, but there are more and more cases of establishments being sued for not providing adequate security and thought it might be useful to mention to potential customers. FWIW, here in California, many Home Owner Association management companies recommend the opposite, which is to say, do absolutely nothing. HOAs have been sued because they added some surveillance cameras, and therefore assumed the responsibility for providing security, and when someone suffers injury, the HOA did not fulfill that responsibility, and is therefore found negligent. You can't win. And you can't quit the game. Best, Christopher

Security means protection surveillance means monitoring (monitoring of the behavior, activities) i would just change all paperwork and signage
