MikeL 0 Posted June 29, 2011 After a 2nd break in I'm looking at getting a video security system.. however indoors I have a large area to cover.. It's about 70-90 FT from the front to the back.. the cameras I will be using have IR illuminators but to help light up the area better what could I use to help with this huge area? Like what type of illuminator?
fa chris 0 Posted June 29, 2011 If it's a lighted indoor area, I would put occupancy sensors on the lights so they turn on when someone enters the area. This alone is a deterrence to anyone breaking in. Added bonus is they turn off when no motion is detected for a preset time so they're awesome for daily use as energy savers. Birdman Adam 0 Posted June 29, 2011 First off, you need a serious alarm system if you don't already have one. I always prefer that you wire in normal spotlights/floods/etc and get the motion type. Place the camera near the lights, so that when they turn on, people look at them (and the camera).
MikeL 0 Posted June 29, 2011 They have a ADT system but disabled because of the amount of people that come in and out If the risk if getting one person the code then others have it.. I know it sounds crazy but that's how it is.. here is a shot of the area that needs to be covered but I wonder.. 5 IR illuminators?
Birdman Adam 0 Posted June 29, 2011 Well if you want IR, just get normal IR (humans can see a dull red). You don't need the totally covert IR (we can't see this at all!). I hope you will use more than one camera to cover this area if you want to be able to identify people all the way to the back!

I plan on using 5 cameras in this area alone but I was just confused on how and where to place the illuminators.. because the ceiling is a drop kind it's white and the walls are brown. I mean should I get a cheap 48 LED kind or something larger?
rory 0 Posted June 29, 2011 Since its for break ins, just put cheap IR cameras at each entrance and exit. Basically if you put a cheap IR camera in each corner they will all work together and should light the place right up. When I say cheap I dont mean Ebay, Amazon, or Costco. Nope not using cheap for main but the only cheap thing I will be getting is a cheap ebay dome one to cover up a mounting place. I'm hoping that the cameras will get that area good.. If I have any other questions I will ask but so far I think I understand.
rory 0 Posted June 29, 2011 This is just an example, cheap color IR Turret domes in a store/warehouse, its pitch dark. There are just 2 in the main store area but notice how they all compliment each other by lighting the whole store up (cam2 and 3). Ofcourse it is not the same size as your location, but in theory it should work similar. Ofcourse you could just buy the Turret IR without the camera, or dont use the camera part of it, just stick them in each corner and use them as IR for other higher res cameras. MikeL 0 Posted June 30, 2011 I will give this a shot, thanks
MikeL 0 Posted July 2, 2011 I got an idea about how big this area is.. about 7,308 sq ft
tomcctv 190 Posted July 2, 2011 I got an idea about how big this area is.. about 7,308 sq ft another way would be to use a few of these. 360 deg pir light sensor. soon as someone enters your building some of the lights come on (much better than IR) and your cameras would stay colour. and much cheaper than changing your existing cameras.
