woltert1 0 Posted July 15, 2011 I was wondering if anyone can tell me where the best location to install outdoor dome cameras is. What do you use to determine the best location? If the house is 40ftx60ft wouldn't you install the cameras on the corners and then fill any spots that might be blind. I am looking to put 6 outdoor CNB VCM-24VFs around the house. I will be installing 4 motion flood lights on the 4 corners also, so do the cameras go behind or in front of the flood lights.
Birdman Adam 0 Posted July 15, 2011 Well, you need to start by thinking about what you NEED from the system. Say someone has previously busted in a window - you'll want cameras on each corner to capture and help identify people messing with windows. Another common view would be all entrances/exits. So a camera for each door. Consider viewing these spots from the inside as well. On a typical house, I'd go for weatherproof domes under the soffits. Use varifocal lenses (standard on those cams) to get the views just right. BTW I can definitely recommend that camera, I used 6 on the outside of a cabin. Here's a day shot: And the same view with the sun below the trees after sunset (the landscape lighting on the tree is bright). When captured with a good DVR (not one that can introduce a lot of noise), these cameras are very effective! (And the price is wonderful if you know where to get em). That was my thoughts, but what about the flood lights? With them installed on the corners where would be the best location for the cameras. In front of them or behind them. I am going to be installing 6 cameras inside the CNB DBM-24vfs also watching the windows and doors. When I set up the dvr I am going to link the alarm with the cameras motion sensor for the inside in hopes to not only catch the subject but to minimize the false alarms. The outside will be set the same way except I will not attach it to the alarm, just have the motion activated.
HTElectrical 0 Posted July 17, 2011 You need to have the lights behind the cameras. Just like if you were to take a picture with a regular SLR camera, you always try to have the light at your back. Since you are using flood lamps, you can get away with the camera fairly close if not next to the floods, you just do not want the light from the lamps shining into or on the lens. Aban-CCTV-Camera 0 Posted August 5, 2011 Avoid any strong light sources in view of the camera.
