PTZ camera doubt

Hi can anyone tell me whether we can control the IP PTZ camera when connected only to the network , not to the DVR?

 

Can we control it using the software which will be given by the camera company like , Netvu Observer by DM? or is it necessary to be connected to the DVR?

you can use software. but there is nothing better than a PTZ controller (dont need dvr)

Hey tom could you be more clear? What do you mean by PTZ controller, the one which would be with arrows on the Netvu Observer?

What he is saying is yes they can be controlled by software but its herky jerky at best.
