rory 0 Posted July 26, 2011 Altronix HubWayLD162CD active (amplified) UTP transceiver hub with integral camera power transmits UTP video, RS422/RS485 data and power over a single CAT-5 or higher structured cable. Unit provides 16 camera channels in a space saving 1U EIA 19" rack mount chassis which may be rack, wall or shelf mounted. Video transmission range is up to 3000 ft. (0.57 mile) max. per channel. Units are compatible with AC and/or DC fixed or PTZ cameras when utilizing Altronix HubWayAv (16 included), HubWayDv or HubWayDvi video balun/combiners. In addition, the unit features individually selectable 24VAC or 28VAC PTC protected outputs with surge suppression Wondering if its any good and how far the power runs can be? Was going to use an Altronix PSU anyway, and cat5 / multipair so figured might as well look at something that saves space at the same time.
fa chris 0 Posted July 26, 2011 http://www.altronix.com/index.php?pid=2&model_num=HubWayLD162CD There's a voltage drop calculator at the bottom to give you an idea of how far the runs can be depending on your power requirements for the camera. No personal experience with the unit, but have always had good luck with altronix.
rory 0 Posted July 26, 2011 Thats just a generic calculator.
fa chris 0 Posted July 26, 2011 Still applies. Says to use their hubsat4d to provide local power for longer runs.
rory 0 Posted July 26, 2011 doesnt apply in this case as their power output from the device goes into unknown wires on the cat5 cable, its some all in one thing. So if it only uses 1 pair, then we need to know that to be able to use the calculator, but we dont know how many pairs it uses.
fa chris 0 Posted July 26, 2011 Says on the voltage calculator: HubWay products supply camera power utilizing two (2) paralelled pairs of the 24AWG wires within a CAT-5 cable. Checked the installation sheet for the HubWayAc/Dv/Dvi combiners and it tells the pin out. Also has a really good diagram on the architecture of the thing.. Looks like you can only have 2 HubSat4D's max on each system, and you need two cat5's running to each one if you want PTZ control. Nothing specifically states the distance it can be ran, the calculator doesn't look very good but it's the only documentation you have to go by from what I can find. rory 0 Posted July 26, 2011 Thanks guess I missed that part I had emailed Altronix but no reply yet. Also looking at a passive device from Muxlabs. Passive should be okay for 600' right?
fa chris 0 Posted July 26, 2011 A balun over cat5 should do 600' for the video signal easy.
cctv_down_under 0 Posted September 2, 2011 Except a standard Balun (passive) will suffer high frequency roll off - I have used Altronix for years.... Lifetime warranty and I have had 1 failure from maybe 100 units sold... great gear
