sicctv 0 Posted July 26, 2011 Hello, I just installed a dome camera indoors and when the lights are off, for some reason the IR is being reflected off of the dome!!! Anybody know why?? Thank you!
Soundy 1 Posted July 26, 2011 This is typical for these sort of cheap cameras. There's usually a small rubber gasket around the end of the lens that presses up tight against the dome to block the reflected light, but if that's loose or missing, you'll get what you're seeing. sicctv 0 Posted July 26, 2011 thanks a lot. you are right, it is a cheap camera lol. i guess you really can tell the difference between the cheap ones just by looking at it. and you are right, that piece is off.. thanks a lot also what if it was a more expensive one, then how would that work? is the actual dome just 1 piece of 2 piece like that one is
rory 0 Posted July 26, 2011 Your best bet when it comes to domes and bullets with IR is to get one with a separate compartment for the IR. The rubber ring thing works but then doesnt always, especially if you took the cover off to refocus. Many IR Bullets these days will have it separated (except for the really cheap ones), when it comes to domes you need to look for Turret IR Domes, they have really cheap versions of those also. Even then IR domes never seem to have the IR distance that IR Bullets do, averaging 20-30', with bullets anything from 20'-30' for real cheap ones to 60'-70' for the typical TDN and then 100'+ for ones with 5-50mm lenses. None of them can match the IR of much more expensive and large cameras such as the Bosch Extreme products which literally blast the area with IR, or using separate powerful IR. rory 0 Posted July 27, 2011 when the area where the IR is, is separated from the area where the lens is, by not just a piece of rubber.
