philips 0 Posted July 23, 2005 I need to install a couple of cameras overlooking my front and back garden. Thy would need to work during the day when i'm out and at night in low light (i have quite a good light which partially illuminates the whole area). At the moment i am looking at installing a video capture card into my Windows xp pc, or more likely to buy another box with the card, piggy back on my existing pc, using the same monitor and key board. As for cameras: im quite happy with b+w and am looking at the following, Sony CCD, B/W 600 TVL Camera (Model: PBC200) Traditional Styling is an instant deterrent to criminals Automatic Gain Control for increased picture quality in low light conditions Automatic Electronic Iris for excellent picture quality in varying light conditions Back Light Compensation for difficult lighting conditions Compatible with Auto Iris lenses for use in extreme lighting conditions IR Sensitive for use with Infra Red lighting (Click here to see our Infra Red lamp range) Durable Metal Case Integrated microphone for Audio 2 Year Guarantee Specifications: Manufacturer: x-vision Resolution: 600 TVL Image Sensor: 1/3" Sony Super HAD CCD Minimum Illumination: 0.05 lux Video Signal Output: BNC Socket Audio Signal Output: Phono Socket Operating voltage: 12V DC Current consumption: 150mA Weatherproofing: As supplied: IP30 (internal use) With HCW200/HCW224: IP65 (external use) Dimensions (WxHxD): As supplied: 50 x 43 x 115mm With HCW200: 100 x 100 x 320mm With HCW224: 110 x 110 x 340mm What about the Xvision PCI card and software. Has anyone out there any experiene of this? And are there any equivalent cameras out there which would do the same job. They would need to capture images upto 12m away. I dont want to pay a king's ransome. Ta Philips

rory 0 Posted July 23, 2005 Depending on what you can get your hands on over there, probably GeoVision, baywatch can probably sell you a decent card. Xvision looks like everyday OEM stuff, nothing special. Either way, you will need a dedicated PC for the DVR. You can use a KVM switch to use only 1 keypad, mouse, and monitor for the 2 PCs. I use the Linksys version and it allows you to click scroll lock twice to switch. Rory
baywatch 1 Posted July 24, 2005 Like Rory advised, a basic Geovision system will do what you want. If you go to www.rfconcepts.co.uk you can get everything you will need at reasonable prices (I have no intrerest in that business). If you need advise on the camera to use, what card to use etc e-mail or phone them up. We also have a computer shop so if you need anything i.e. kvm switch we can advise on these. We are across the Bristol channel in Wales.
