Opinions sought: GVI vs. Security Labs

Recommended Posts

Good eve,

I've narrowed my DVR choices down to two, the GVI AR-6160 or the Security Labs SLD266. Both seem to be well endowed with a feature set I'll find highly useful for at least the next couple of years, but I've never dealt with either company before. My experience to date has been with very high-end Pelco and Honeywell gear, both of which are well beyond my budget or needs.

One big concern, beyond reliability and serviceability, is my wife. She needs to be able to access the live view, and control the two PTZ cameras, via a simple web-browser interface. Dedicated remote-access software is out, because she's vision-impaired and needs to use a screen enlarger (MAGic) to even use her computer. We already discovered, the hard way, that iRAS and MAGic do not play well together.

As near as I can tell, both of my prospective choices will do web access, but again I've had no direct experience with either.

Observations welcome. Thanks much.

(After reading the article on GVI...)

Damn... That's frustrating. I liked the look of their stuff. (sigh)

Ah, well. No matter. Further research has determined my best course is actually to pursue a hybrid DVR, since I'll eventually be moving to IP cameras.

With this in mind, I've now got my eye on the AverMedia EH5216H. Anyone have observations on it?

Thanks much.
