Downloading Files

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Jumping straight to the point, I need to be able to download the video files from my DVR. I have got a D2014GA, though in all honesty I do not know who manufactured it. It has got a USB port, and boasts that it saves all video files into MPEG4 format. I thought maybe a USB direct transfer cord would do the trick, but no such luck. It, of course, has got the standard ethernet networking port on the back too, but I do not know anything about networking to try and figure out if that is a viable option.

I use this machine, along with four IR bullet cameras for ghost hunting and paranormal investigation, so the system is broken down and moved around quite a bit.

I hope I have this question in the right section.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Typically the procedure would be to plug in a clean, formatted USB flash drive into the USB port. Then login to the DVR, and choose the backup option (wherever/whatever it may be called on this DVR). Then you would select the time frame and channels you want to backup.

There may be options for how the video is stored, i.e. as MPEG4 or some proprietary way that requires a viewer. I always try to choose the most 'standard' option, say .AVI.

It doesn't necessarily have to be clean, but I find it best, just to rule out any possibilities. I'd format it as FAT32. Some oddball DVRs could need just plain old FAT.

Alright, I'll try to track something like that down and give it a shot.

Also, just so we're on the same page - I cannot even find an option to "back up" or anything with a similar title.

I thought you already tried to backup but it failed?

Maybe it doesnt backup to USB?

When playing back see if there is a USB backup feature there, or save icon.

I must have misspoke, I apologize.

I haven't been able to even find a way to access the backup features. I have searched through the menus, and I cannot find anything that seems to mean "back up."

In truth, I'm not even 100% sure how I'm supposed to connect to the device. I have plugged in the USB device I described above (haven't had a chance to get my hands on the USB device you described yet). When I did, nothing happened, and I didn't get any new options.

Maybe I can get access to it via the networking options? I don't know anything about networking.

This is my machine, along with some info on it, if any of it is useful.

no user manual

Check the IR remote for anything that says USB or looks like a floppy disk.

It wont auto run, it will have to be initiated by the remote or a menu section.

Try a 2GB (non SDHC) and should work

"SDHC" refers only to a spec for high-capacity SD cards; it means nothing to USB flash drives.

He may need to format as plain FAT (rather than FAT32), which for best compatibility means a flash drive <2GB.

Yep my bad, I use SD and SDHC cards in a USB Flash drive which had me ... confused

I find 2GB and less work best though, can never get my 8GB to read in some DVRs.

If a user guide exists for this model, I don't have it. We got the unit used, without a manual. I've hunted online for one with no luck.

The remote does not have any buttons that look like a USB or floppy disc, or anything at all.

Windows 7 doesn't give me the option to format into just FAT. I get FAT32, exFAT, and one other, I can't remember. I'll hunt around online to see if I can find a program that will format it into FAT.
