SecurityNub 0 Posted October 6, 2011 After looking at this HDD in person, looks huge, maybe too big/incompatible to my DVR. This project has cost more than I ever thought it would, even after buying cheap stuff. So I do have to slowly piece things together. What I am asking you is whether or not I just bought the wrong HDD? I see that my SATA cable plugs into it just fine, but I am curious about those other pluggins. Is there other cables that need to go into them? Will the HDD be powered all by itself through that one pluggin? I don't know if people who read my posts think I am a complete idiot, but I do appreciate any help you can give. Pics below............
Soundy 1 Posted October 6, 2011 That one cable you have connected is the SATA power... you still need a SATA data cable, which would plug into the small connector right beside the power connector (the right one of the two you've circled), and into the SATA data connector on the mainboard (also right beside the white plug on that power cable). The other bunch of pins are for jumpers to configure various parameters; you wouldn't normally use them.
SecurityNub 0 Posted October 6, 2011 Ahh yes, I see that cord now. Forgot it was in the box. Thanks for the help.
Soundy 1 Posted October 6, 2011 Those four keyholes underneath the drive in the first picture, should match up to the screwholes on the bottom of the drive - just use some short coarse-thread computer screws to attach it. Recommend using all four for the best contact possible between the drive and the case, to help with heat dissipation.
SecurityNub 0 Posted October 6, 2011 Ahh yes, they lined up better than I thought they would. It looks huge in my DVR, but it fits just right.
