cheapish IP capable DVR to support Acti, Axis, Mobotix

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I have a client with an existing mix of 6 Acti, Axis, and Mobotix IP cameras. Currently their SBS server is acting as DVR, but having an understandably very hard time coping with it all, on top of regular duties. Also the the Mobotix Q22 camera has a known conflict with the server's "Wolfdale" class CPU that won't allow it to be added to the DVR recording server software (known issue confirmed by Mobotix).

We want and need to get them onto a dedicated DVR ASAP, but am at a bit of a loss for choice.

We need the unit to support:

  • 8 channel.
  • Acti, Axis and mobotix IP cameras.
  • Footage to be (re)viewable from web browser, without client software (and preferably without need for IE/Active X).
  • Smartphone viewable.

This is what's available from our usual supplier (Tiger Direct):

Do any of these support IP cameras (it doesn't seem to be explicitly stated).

Or do I need something from here:

Ideally we'd like to keep costs down, as have already spent on decent cameras, and would like a DVR in the $500 region, if not too much to ask.

Many thanks for any advice, or even suggestions for other suppliers.

Dom

thanks, that unit looks excellent but possibly overkill for my 6 cameras?

So what i need is a network video recorder as per my second link, only they all seem to start at $1000...!

Surely there must be something available in the $500 price range? I don't need RAID, and surely all it is is an embedded Linux NAS with a hard drive and a Video card??

It seems to me that as a small business they'd be better off buying a dedicated gaming PC with decent card, and running it all from that and gaining an extra workstation...

Thanks again

Dom

Find a "spare" computer around the place and build your own, using something like Exacq, Milestone, Nuuo, etc. An NVR requires no special hardware; the cameras are all recorded via network.

thanks, I think i was coming to the same conclusion.

Of the recording software, which is best/reasonable value, and can support the aforementioned cameras, and gives a simple web browser to review footage without need for dedicated client software?

Currently the server is running a mixture of Netguard, Onssi and Ocularis clients (from memory).

A dedicated computer will work with VMS software.

Exacq will not work because of the Mobotix cameras and the web client isn't full featured.

Milestone has free software that will work but you need a descent computer to run it and I don't think the free software has a web client. Plus it only stores video for 5 days

I haven't used NUUO VMS only the MINI's

Either way to get everything you want your gonna spend about $1000 for the computer and VMS
