DVR connection to internet

Recommended Posts

Hi, i am a newbie and havent used forums before so not really sure what i am doing, so sorry before i even begin.

I have a problem, i have purchased a Avtech DVR, i have a static ip, i have set up portforwarding on my router, problem is i cant get it all to work together.

i have set all the information up on the DVR as per the instructions using my ISP's info, but i am stuck when it says in the instructions for the DVR

connect dvr and computer together then set PC's IP address to 192.168.1.xxx,

i cant find how to do this, and dont understansted why i would use the IP address above when I have changed the STATIC IP on the DVR in the network settings to my static IP.

if someone understands what i am saying i would appreciate some help.

Many thanks

hi,

192.168.1.10 is the default IP of the device, if you want you can connect to computer by local connection (by changing ip of the computer to 192.168.1.xxx).

Find the local ip adress of your router (the one you use to open the menu of router, es: 192.168.1.1), insert this value in "gateway".

Choose an ip adress for your dvr with the same value than gateway but changing the last number (es:192.168.1.99). Insert this number in "Server IP".

Netmask 255.255.255.0

Do portforwarding of the ip you choosen and choose the port you want.

Now writing your fix ip adress (the one your company gave you) plus the port (es: 3000) you should be able to connect to the dvr (es: 60.250.9.54:3000).

usually i do this way, but of course there are people more expert than me that can suggest you another way.

I am using the AVC796 DVR and the router is a netgear DGN2200.

I may have created myself a problem, i changed the network info on the DVR as this is what i thought i had to do but i now believe i shouldnt have, problem is i cant remember what it had said before.

Many thanks

Wendy

This are the informations to enter in the dvr:

Network Type: Static

IP: 192.168.0.44 (or change 44 with a number you want)

Gateway: 192.168.0.1 (number you use to enter router page, right?)

Netmask: 255.255.255.0

Primary DNS: 168.95.1.1

Secondary DNS: 139.175.55.244

PORT: (the one you want 20, 55, 200,8080......)

Now go to your router page (write 192.168.0.1 in Explorer)

Select port forwarding on the left, and mark port forwarding. Then click on add custom service.

Service name: (write one name you want)

Service type: tcp/udp

Starting port

Ending port (same) (the PORT you choosen before)

Server IP adress: 192.168.0.44 (or the number you choosen)

Now it should be working: if you type your fix IP adress plus the port, you should be able to connect to your dvr (es: 64.55.12.33:8080)

if you are not sure about your fix IP number check this website, and you will find it: http://www.whatismyip.com/

EX: Ip Wan: 118.71.131.110

Ip LAN: 192.168.1.1

Ip DVR: 192.168.1.10

If you had only one device need to go out Internet, I think you could used the DMZ function on router (fill 192.168.1.10 into the blank) and on DVR you set the port http: 80.

It's really simple to do.

And now you could access your camera

Via LAN you access: http://192.168.1.10

Via internet http://{your static ip}

If you don't know your ip you should access
