KPC 0 Posted November 8, 2011 I'm running a honeywell 4 channel dvr but looking into upgrading to a 16ch I am running all 4 channels on the honeywell dvr, but have several new cameras including a ptz sitting on the shelf, so I plan to upgrade to a 16ch dvr Right now my dvr is sitting on a filing cabinet to the side of my desk, out in plain sight. With the new 16ch dvr, I want to mount it in a steel dvr lock box in the closet out of sight I am using a 32 inch lcd tv as the monitor, and want to control the video output settings of the new dvr via a ptz keyboard joystick. I have not purchased the new DVR nor the ptz keyboard / joystick, so my options are wide open at this point. By controlling the video output settings of the new dvr via a ptz keyboard joystick, more specifically let say that I want to display channel 2 on the monitor, I'd use the ptz keyboard / joystick, I could do something like a button sequence such as pressing a 'monitor' button, then pressing button '2', which would have the dvr display channel 2 on the monitor. Another example is say the ptz is on channel 3, I'd press the 'monitor' button, then press button '3' to have the dvr display the ptz channel 3 on the monitor, then maybe do a button sequence such as a 'ptz' button, then button '3' which would let the joystick know that I want to control ptz on channel 3. I plan on running a IR repeater from my desk to the dvr lock box in the closet, so that I can still use the remote that comes with the dvr, but I want to primarily control the video output selections of the dvr, using the ptz keypad / joystick. Is this something that can be achieved on a residential system 'hobby' budget. Don't confuse me with one of the $400 box system 'hobbiest' but on the same hand, I don't have the budget of a casino security control room system either. KPC 0 Posted November 11, 2011 see in this post, there is a matching dvr & keyboard, running the ptz, and I'm only going to guess that the keyboard can also control the dvr to change video display output to the monitor. This is the type of setup that I'm interested in, can anyone share information about setting up a keyboard / dvr that communicate with each other. I was looking at Qvis or Dahua for the dvr as these seem to be well recommended on here. But I need to know if these dvr systems can work with keyboard controllers
