prosinger 0 Posted November 13, 2011 Hi everyone. As a radio ham (G4NMP) I've always been interested in electronics but recently turned my interests to CCTV and just picked up what I think is a Sensormatic Ultra VII day/night camera in a dome housing. The speed domes I use on my house are operated using a RS-485 controller and my new Sensormatic seems to be only RS-422. Would it be possible to operate my new Sensormatic on my existing controller? If I have to get a different controller will I still be able to run my existing PT&Z cameras which are RS-485? Looking inside the new dome there is a 6 way socket marked R+, R-, --- T+, T-, --- these are wired up. Then the last 2 marking are S+, S-, one side of the 6 way connector has a yellow/white wire and a white/orange wire but at the other side of the connector has no wires going in at these points. I wondered if anyone has any information I could maybe download or could possibly send me (I'll pay of course). Any help appreciated. Brian Rotherham
Soundy 1 Posted November 13, 2011 There's really little functional difference between RS-422 and RS-485 - check some of the info here: http://www.omega.com/techref/das/rs-232-422-485.html - you SHOULD be able to just connect your controller's TX pins to the camera's RX pins and away you go (my experience, you may have to swap polarity AFTER both devices are up and running, or you may have to use the camera's TX pins rather than the RX... experiment a bit). If that fails, try something like this: http://www.commfront.com/rs232-rs485-rs422-serial-converters/RS485-RS422-Converter.htm (not an endorsement of this product, just the first thing that came up in a Google search). SDM Group 0 Posted November 14, 2011 The S+ and S- are Sensornet, Sensormatic's own control protocol
fa chris 0 Posted November 14, 2011 The ultra vII should do sensornet 485, Manchester, and RS-422, and UTC. That's just the wiring though, the camera also supports about two dozen protocols, which are selected using three address switches (SW1, SW2, SW3) which should be on the back of the camera. What controller? What protocol? I'm guessing it'll work fine, will just be a matter or proper wiring/settings. I have a pdf of the speeddome ultra VII installation & service guide if you'd like me to forward it (free of charge). PM me email address.
prosinger 0 Posted January 2, 2012 Well, I'm back from a long trip to India now and am getting stuck into all the suggestions you've kindly sent me to try. I'll let you know how I get on but if you can think of anything else I might try in the meantime, I'd be greatful if you'd let me know. It's a Sensormatic pt & z and it says it needs a SensorNet 485, RS-422 or Manchester or UTC controller and the controller I'm using on my existing system is RS-485. Thanks again.
