Connecting DVR to multiple televisions

Recommended Posts

I need some assistance in finding a solution for making from my DVR whick is on the third floor of my home to Televisions that are on the first and second floors.

It would appear that VGA is the best solution but I was curious about using CAT-5 for such long runs. Yet, are there any adaptors to go from VGA to CAT5 on the DVR and then from CAT5 to VGA on the televisions? If someone feels that CAT5 is not my best option then feel free to give me advice.

KVM extender is the best way to go (cat5) plus a good KVM will also give you the control if your dvr has mouse operation.

Thanks for your response. Such a switch would make using CAT5 doable and I conducted some research on the KVM extenders that you mentioned and found them to be a bit pricey. Unless I am looking in the wrong place or viewing the wrong item the prices are upwards of $200.

Kindly, is it possible to add a link for locations to purchase these switches?

KVM extenders give you keyboard, mouse, and video (and sometimes USB and audio as well). If all you want is the video, you don't need KVM extenders, you just need a pair of VGA baluns, which you'll probably find for about $100/pair. Or if your DVR has HDMI or DVI out, and your TVs have HDMI or DVI in, for maybe $50-$70 you can get HDMI extenders.
