Remote viewing problem

Recommended Posts

Hi all, new to the site so please be gentle!!

I have just purchased a H.264, 4ch DVR from Globeteck which is hard wired into a Belkin Router. I have set the dvr to it's own ip address of 192.168.2.*. The camera's work fine and when I log into the dvr from my pc (on my LAN via wifi) I can see the cameras no problem. I have set up the port forwarding as instructed by Globeteck - 80 (tcp &udp), 3356 (tcp), 3357 (tcp), 3358 (tcp) and 3360 (tcp) and when i have checked on canyouseeme.org, all of the ports are working fine.

I have also set my iphone 4 so that I can view my cameras when i'm not at home - this is via the zMeyePlus app. This also works when the ip address's are set the same. This is were my problem is!

The problem that i have is that my ip provider is Karoo (the only one that I can have as they have the monpoly!!!!) and my ip address is dynamic.

I have registered an account/host name with dyndns which also appears to be working ok.

I'm sure it is something simple but I cannot figure out how to link them all together so that when my ip address changes on my router, it changes the ip to match on the dvr and also on my iphone?

If I get the ip address from my pc and then input it into my iphone it works fine but when I leave the previous ip address on my iphone setting it obviously fails to connect!

I have inputted my dns details on both the router and the dvr and both 'accept' the details. I can provide details of connection type etc if required.

Thanks in advance!

Matt

Either your router or DVR (or both) should have DDNS support built in to them. Find that setting and input the host name, login, and password that you used to create your dyndns account. Then go into your dyndns account and update the current IP address and save it.

Now the IP address should be current and the DVR or router will be updating your dyndns account if and when it changes.

Thanks for the quick response, I will try it later today.

Just one other thing that I forgot to mention. On the dvr set up it asks if the ip address is static or dhcp. The instructions with the dvr state that it should be set as static.

Do I need to change this ?

Thanks.
